In the Summer of 2007, the Association of Young Americans mailed letters to Congressmembers under the age of 40 and a variety of Middle East / foreign policy experts (see list of responders) asking for their opinions as to the situtaion on Iraq. Each letter contained 5 questions. The questions and links to each person's answers are below. We invite you to review the questions and responses, and share your thoughts in our Iraq Forum.
1) What is the realistic, best case outcome in Iraq (Security of Iraq, Length of US involvement, Type of government) and what can the US do to make the best case outcome more likely?
2) Can the situation in Iraq be solved, or significantly improved, without the U.S. seeking direct Iranian and Syrian political assistance?
3) Do you think an independent, democratic Iraq existing in a modern Middle East is possible? Why or why not?
4) What impact would a stable Iraq have on direction of Middle East political/peace efforts?
5) How will a high school history book in 2050 describe what occurred in Iraq?
