Natural Gas

Natural gas "produces less carbon dioxide - about 50 percent less than coal and 33 percent less than oil - for the same energy production." (50). While using gas would thus reduce emissions, it would likely only delay or slow the planet's warming. This is not an insignificant advantage and many experts view gas as a 'transition' fuel from oil to a renewable or zero emission energy source. Still, gas reserves are basically in the same geographic areas as oil, and thus the geopolitical issues would arise in a world economy drive by natural gas. (51).
