What Steps Should We Take?

While each of the alternative energies listed does have some potential to lessen increasing consumption of oil, not even the staunchest advocate of any or all of these options will seriously contend one is the answer to oil dependence today.

While increasing consumption of oil and Climate Change are related, plans to address each issue are not necessarily complimentary. If the geopolitical issues related to oil dependency are addressed without consideration of concerns about global warming, increased fossil fuel use (particularly coal, of which the US has massive quantities) would be a fine solution. Additionally, viewing the global warming issue outside of national and global energy needs could lead one to conclude that steep reductions in usage are warranted and any economic slowdown is a minor price to pay for a cleaner planet. Viewing either issue in isolation, however, would miss the larger circumstances and could lead to disastrous consequences. You can learn more about Climate change on our website, here.
