Conclusions

The Iraqi Study Group Report acknowledged the gravity of the situation in Iraq and the implications of its recommendations. "What we recommend in this report demands a tremendous amount of political will and cooperation by the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government. It demands skillful implementation." The report also noted the impact of the U.S. effort in Iraq, including on Afghanistan. "The huge focus of U.S. political, military, and economic support on Iraq has necessarily diverted attention from Afghanistan."
